The Matheran Diaries - Day 3 - Leaving Matheran + Chikki at Lonavla + Hello Pune

it was time to leave Matheran and head to Pune. woke up early as usual and after a quick breakfast, we took along with us a lady porter to accompany us with our bags and walk to Dasturi Naka where our designated cabbie Sameer Khan waiting to take us to Pune.

i never got a chance to click pics of the thousands of beautiful horses in Matheran, so here are a few from the last day.

travelling from Matheran to Pune, we get to cross Lonavla , another beautiful and popular holiday destination and hill station.

Lonavla is also very famous for Chikki ( a ready to eat sweet made from peanuts and jaggery) and most of the chikki comes from here. Magan Lal chikkis is a house hold name and probably the most popular brand. we couldnt but resist stopping over for 10 minutes and picking a few packets of Chikki for ourselves and friends back home.

the drive to Pune was pretty pleasant even though it was for around 4 hours!  thanks to our friends at The 3 Hungry men, we managed to check ourselves into a No Frills lodging called Randeep Lodge.

the taxi fare from Dasturi Naka to Pune came to Rs 3,000/- . he has originally quoted Rs 2,500/- but i paid him the extra RS 500/-

after checking in, the first thing we did was to have lunch. the owner of Randeep Lodge was a former top cop in Pune and he now indulges in cooking. some of the dishes we tried at his restaurant Kailash

after a hearty meal, we slept off most of the evening , only to wake up even more hungry! fortunately for us, Randeep Lodge is situated at the very busy and heart of Pune, where the railway station is a walk able distance and bang opp Jehangir hospital on Sassoon road.

exploring the surrounding areas, we then decided we would have dinner at a fancy restaurant. that took us to "Arthur's Theme" , Koregaon Park.

some night pics surrounding Sassoon road

the security guard told us not to click pics
