First let me ask myself some questions about framing and for your convenience , i shall answer them as well..

what is framing?
Its a simple technique in photography where the subject grabs immediate attention by the viewer

Why is framing done?
So that ur images look cool and different from the ordinary

How is framing done?
presence of mind and a good subject tops the list

Types of framing
2 important ones are portrait framing and object framing.

What ees Frames within Frames?
as the name suggests its "Frames within a frame". it could be a reflection of a mirror, books in a shelf, photo of a window or wall clock or just about anything.

Tips to remember
  1. first find an image with a frame.
  2. play with the DOF and decide if it needs to be shallow or deep
  3. The idea here is for the image to tell you a story. it should not look bland and should be intriguing enough to grab ones attention.
lets look at examples with portraits and beautiful people :)

So far the examples were of close range , now lets look at some examples with a Telephoto lens

In the above 3 photos the subject at the centre becomes the main focus of attention.

and now finally lets look at Objects (and not people ) in frames within frames
this is the most fun part and even mundane boring objects look interesting to the eye.

A wall clock with its many borders and frames...

see how simple and fun it really is. now for the next image, which went horribly wrong

Model: Canon EOS 60D
ISO: 400
Exposure: 1/60 sec
Aperture: 4.0
Focal Length: 67mm
Flash Used: Yes

few wrong things here
1. the girls face is not sitting the frame the way it should have been. this is because she moved a lot and i didnt have time to capture the perfect moment.
2. notice how dirty the hand held mirror is. had it been clean, the image would have been a lot better.
3. even though this was a candid shot, it seems staged.

Happy Clicking
